FORK OFF! Animals, Art, and Advocacy

With a mandate to raise awareness for the plight of animals, this art show will feature new work from nine award-winning professional fine artists. The work will focus on the artist’s relationship with animals and their decision to not eat them. On Saturday at 2:30 PM, Sheila Norgate will be giving a brand new talk. Admission is free.

Cutting out meat and dairy is the best way to reduce your environmental impact: study

Giving up meat and dairy is the single most effective way a person can reduce their environmental impact, new research has found.

The meta-analysis, published in the journal Science, analyzed data from 750 studies, encompassing 40,000 farms in 119 countries.

The researchers found that while meat and dairy products provide 18 per cent of all calories and 37 per cent of all protein, its production uses 83 per cent of farmland and produces 60 per cent of the agriculture industry’s greenhouse gas emissions.

RASTA Farm Sanctuary

Some unfortunate news to report is that Lucie, the Founder and operator of RASTA Farm Sanctuary in Chemainus, is in serious condition after a surgery in Duncan that led to complications. She is passionate about veganism and a real champion for animals, especially those fortunate ones in her care. Lucie is very concerned about the farm and animals in her absence, and would be grateful for any financial help for the Sanctuary to cover the extra costs of the animal care while she is recovering.
